History of Scout Motors

SCOUT Motors Car Service Repair Manuals PDF above the page.

Scout Motors, the American brand now owned by Volkswagen, announced the debut of its first electric mobile on October 24, 2024.

This date is symbolic for the company, because it was on this day, 44 years ago, that the last International Scout II was assembled.

Once upon a time, this legendary off-roader was a direct competitor to the Ford Bronco and became the forerunner of modern SUVs.

After financial difficulties, the company International Harvester was transformed into Navistar in 1986, and VW acquired the rights to the brand Scout in 2020. Several years later The anniversary Volkswagen decided to return Scout as an electric brand, specializing in off-roaders and pickups.

Production of the new models is planned to begin in 2026 at a new plant in South Carolina worth $2 billion, with the planned Capacity up to 200 thousand cars per year.

But will Scout Motors be able to restore its former glory in such a competitive market?

Scout Motors presented a short teaser of its novelties: electric SUV and pickup.

The video shows a roof with compass, which hints at the off-road capabilities of the car.

And although it looks impressive, it is worth wondering: will it be enough to compete with such giants as Ford, Chevrolet, Jeep and Rivian?

The sketches, which were presented earlier, show high clearance, short taillights and a long wheelbase of the offroader. Pickup – all points to potential permeability, but final characteristics remain in question No Details about the technical characteristics or types of batteries that will be used.

Competitors have long offered consumers what they want: performance, long range and advanced technologies.
